"YARD SALE" JUNE 6, 2009 7:00am to 12noon
Four Oaks Bank Parking Lot
|
Despite cloudy and cool weather, the STNinJC Yard Sale went on as scheduled on Saturday, June 6, 2009. Sellers
and buyers mingled on the Four Oaks parking lot from before 7am till noon to the tunes of Elvis Presley and Anne Murray.
Due to the generosity of members, the Organization made $500 in the sale of items and about $80 in the sale of
raffle tickets.
Tables were set up by Pat Anthony, Royal and Sheila Williams, Sherry Jackson, Sharon Castleberry, Deb Everett,
Norwood and Kristin Williams, and Michelle and Andre Jackwell.
Items to sell were also brought to the Yard Sale by Lloyd Barnes, Katie Braylock, and Robert and Kathleen Thurston-
Lighty. Sarah Anderson contributed items and Bobby Alston made an effort to donate furniture which, unfortunately, we
did not have time to pickup. What a variety of stuff – furniture, clothing, electronic equipment, toys and more. Others
who came to lend a helping hand and to claim or sell raffle tickets were Carol Harris, Gwen Ward, Margaret Gooding,
Annie Shand, and Carolyn and Donald Beufort. The success of the event can only be contributed to the hard work,
generosity, and combined efforts of our members.
- The “Queen for the Day” was Deb Everett who sold the most goods and made the highest sales. You should
have seen her in action.
- The “Funniest Sale Item” was made to Sheila Williams – the new owner of a flimsy, floppy, fluffy six inch
brim blue picture hat which she proudly displayed for all to enjoy.
- The “Lead Salesman” in raffle ticket sales must go to Lloyd Barnes, who at Sheila’s urging, left with 5 booklets
of 20 tickets each to sell. Who but Lloyd can sell 100 tickets in one day!
- The “Best Sale Item” was contributed by Katie Blaylock – a motorized replica beetle bug car which took no time
at all capturing the heart of many, both young and old alike. It was sold, for nothing even close to its value, to a
bright eyed smiling young boy. The joy on his face was worth more than any amount of money which could have
been made.
The day ended on a high note when our unsold items were given to a middle aged couple, both laid off and unemployed,
to be given by them to their children and grandchildren. Driving home in our much lighter or empty trucks, we were all
tired but thankful for a morning spent together in friendship and fellowship knowing in our hearts full well that:
“When we give, we get back”.
“What we do by ourselves matters, but what we do together really makes the difference”.
